Some pieces in HORSES IN THE BACKYARD are based on things I’ve said a dozen times and more to parents and kids to keep them from getting stepped on, and said as general background to people starting at the barn picking stalls. One set of pieces gets horses turned out into the pastures, and then in again, and I try to show what we see, what the horses see. And some are the sharing of moments which by their simple beauty stay in the mind and heart for years.
Seen them born, seen them happy to be horses, been with them when they died.
